Glaucoma

Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness in the Western world, after diabetes and is characterized by progressive loss of sight until you reach the total blindness.

Glaucoma is caused by increased intraocular pressure secondary to obstruction of aqueous humor drainage outwards, thereby causing damage to nerve fibers that make up the optic nerve, which in turn carries visual information to the brain.

Aqueous humor is produced within the eye and is designed to provide nutrition to intraocular tissues

There are many causes of glaucoma, but it is known that there is a hereditary tendency and its frequency increases with age.

Unfortunately, glaucoma is asymptomatic in its early stages, and only routine eye examinations diagnosed in its early stages.

All people, especially after age 40 and those who have relatives with glaucoma should have Routine checks made by Ophthalmologist and diagnostic studies for early detection. If the disease is detected, the glaucoma specialist, determine which is the recommended treatment, which can be either medical or surgical.

If by car, take the second exit (before you go up the bridge), you will see our sign, just past the yellow cab station.  Park in the front of the building.
