A cataract occurs when the natural eye's lens to focus on objects loses its transparency, causing progressive loss of vision, the person complains of seeing very foggy and not improved with lenses.
There are multiple causes that produce it, being the most frequent age-related, inflammatory processes, trauma, or congenital diabetes among others. It may be bilateral. The definitive treatment is surgical.
Cataract Surgery
The intervention performed as outpatient surgery, and almost always under local anesthesia, with duration of approx. 30 min. As with all procedures performed an initial evaluation, taking some parameters used for calculating the refractive power of intraocular lens placed after cataract extraction.
Currently the technology has evolved significantly providing ultrasound equipment emulsify the cataract (lucuefaccion), this is done by opening at the periphery of the eye cornea to less than 3 mm.

Phacoemulsification
After removing the cataract, we proceed to place an intraocular lens to function as a lens in the same place. It currently provides a wide variety of these lenses with a technology that has made high quality and highly compatible (without rejection). The advantages of this technique are that there is minimal inflammatory process, rapid visual rehabilitation early resumption of daily activities and less postoperative astigmatism.
Phacoemulsification is one of the safest and precise techniques of modern ophthalmology.
